I had thought about getting this done for a while now. I am getting close to my 40th birthday and I have never wanted children. Even in my longest relationship of 8 years with my ex girlfriend in the UK, not once did I ever think about kids. I understand that you can always get a vasectomy reversal these days anyway, which is meant to be fairly effective – but a little painful! If I do go for that option one day, then I think I want to be knocked out.

I have tried to get the procedure done at a government hospital, but this proved to be problematic – they said I could not have one as I was childless – fair enough, its not my country and I understand that Thais think its strange to not want kids.

In the end, I had to go private – it cost me around 17,000b and also about 600b to see the doctor before the operation, so not cheap as I would have liked (government hospital) was only 5000b.

The operation itself was pretty painless except for maybe 30 seconds – I am recovering very well, I had sex 3 days after the operation (4 times!) and its a much better feeling knowing I am less lightly to get a girl pregnant (although you have to wait around 2-3 months for all the sperm to leave the tubes apparently). the doctor said that I had to come back in 3 months to check the sperm – I said ‘what!? you mean masturbate in hospital?!!’ he said, yeah – or do it at home and bring it in… my current girl said she will help out with this – bless her cotton socks.
