I want to break it down for budget travellers on what to expect for day to day living costs in Thailand.
If you want to do everything on the cheap, then Thailand can still offer a big bang for your Baht. Lets take Bangkok for example. Many backpackers love to hang out here, myself included when I was in my 20s.
Dorm Room – Cheapest I can find is 50b If you are staying at Khaosan Road / Khao Sarn Road, then there are places which let you stay for hardly anything. This place does not have the best reviews on TripAdvisor, but if you are on a super low budget this is for you. The one I am thinking of is called The Overstay and its close to Kohosan – very bad reviews like I said, but could be interesting just for the experience.
Food – You can eat in Bangkok for 30b a meal from the street stalls, I get a little sick of Thai food all the time, but if you are here for a short period of time then this will be fine for you. If you do miss some of the food from your own country, then 7-11 is also a good option for some cheap food. They do have frozen meals for about 30b which they will heat up for you and have western style dishes in the freezer as well – water as cheap as 5b a bottle.
So for absolute budget day in Bangkok with no travel except walking its going to cost you about 150b
