Its come to that time again when I make one of my trips back home. I know that I am going to be overindulging once I get back to the UK. I miss all the food types I can get in the UK when I am living in Thailand. Sure, Thai food is nice if you don’t live here, or are a Thai – I used like eating Thai food every week, green curry normally, but once you are here full time, then it can get a little boring.
OK, so tips on loosing weight in Thailand after 4 years of living here.
Cut out the white rice.
Thai rice is some of the best in the world, however, a lot of stuff the street sellers sell is just the cheapest white rice they can sell to maintain profit margins. If you do intend on eating street food then limit the white rice intake. I would just have the meal with out the rice, perhaps some Moo Dad Diao (pork) or Tom Yam Gung (sour soup with prawns) some BBQ chicken or maybe a curry without the rice. A lot of the time the Thai person with think you are mad by not ordering rice, but we all know that too many carbs are not good for keeping the weight off.
Another problem is going to be beer.
I love beer so much! Once I start on some beers, it can be 3 or 4 nights in a row of heavy consumption followed by up to 6 weeks of no beer after that! I have only managed 6 weeks once, and 2 weeks as well, but this is all in 2014, I think for me, extended periods of abstinence is the only way I can cut down on drinking beer – so if you find yourself binging, you could give this a try. If you enjoy a drink every night and can control it, then switch to a low calorie drink such as San Miguel Light or if you can do it, drink the Thai whiskey (well, its actually Rum) with soda – soda and lime also a bit better.
Can be difficult to motivate yourself here. I always have more success at getting to the gym if I actually live in a condo block with a gym onsite, so maybe this could work for you to? At least try and get a place with a pool, or if you are in Phuket, then a swim in the sea used to be great as so much sea life to look at – not so much on the east coast where I am now in Pattaya. Walking and running is only really doable in the gym as well as the roads here are so dangerous, what with dogs and drunk drivers, I would not advise hitting the streets.
So there are my tips for weight loss in Thailand, less carbs and swimming / gym.
