Hospitals in Samui Thailand – expensive!

I have just got back from the hospital – wow – never get sick on Samui! I have Tendonitis – so should not be tying really – trying to not use my thumb when typing.

I had an x-ray, doctor consultation and then the medication – 3000b! The medication was 1000b on its own which is damn expensive. My insurance wont cover it as I went for the cheap option which has an excess of 6000b for medical, so no point trying to claim

Well, I am hoping its going to be better in a week as I am leaving Thailand for a while to sort out visas, see family and mabye get some better travel insurance!

Time to move on

Well, been in Hua Hin 10 months now I think. Its been easy living here, lots of bars if you want them – maybe 50 or so different ones in the centre and about another 20 on soi 80. So plenty or drinking areas which is important to me!

Weather is pretty good here, a lot of sun, meant to be one of the sunniest places in Thailand – no flooding either over the last 10 months, so lucky in that respect.

Restaurants are a bit disappointing though, except for S&S Indian.

So yeah, time to move on now – Samui next – its where I fist lived last year so I know the island pretty well and have a few friends there.

Skytrain – BTS – Rot Fai Far

Yeah, the sky train – I have just read an article on this form of transport and the person praising it. Ok, its fast, compared to a taxi it is very fast and can be cheap as well if you buy the 30 day pass and recharge it with 30 or so credits. The person who wrote the article was saying that the standard was better than being on the Tube. I have been on the tube a few times and I think its pretty much the same – I can often get a seat on the tube and often can get a seat on the BTS.

One thing which is really annoying on the BTS is the beeping that happens just before they close the door! It is soooo loud on the Sukhumvit line – it hurts my ears so much – please turn it down just a little.

Has any anyone ever noticed the Silom line trains can smell of cannabis when you get on after changing in Siam? I am 100% sure it is not cannabis, but it does have the same smell, maybe its the air freshener they are using.

Should I go to Pattaya?! Living in Pattaya, Cheap Accommodation?

Ok, ok – I know its sleeze central, but it does have parts which are not like this, its close to Bangkok, lots of housing opportunities, big ex-pat population – its cheap.

Well, I would welcome your advice from anyone who has stayed there for a long time.

I would like to know about meeting people, places to stay (near ex-pats would be good), pubs, places to eat, thai language school, internet – who is the best internet provider? I hate the slowness off all the places I have stayed around Thailand so far. I think the only way to go is to get my own private connection which means renting a place for 6 months or so. I imagine the contract is for a year, so how easy is it to move to a new address once I have signed up for a year – I get bored pretty quickly.

Welcome to my first year of living in Thailand!

Its been an interesting year, met lots of people, been to many bars and had lots of visitors over to see me.

I decided to stay here for a year as I have always been interested in Thailand since my first visit over 10 years ago.

I was blown away by the place, it was a real culture shock to me and the most foreign place I had ever been to. I was on a trip to Australia with my mate Brits. We both had working holiday visas for Oz and decided to make a stop over in Thailand before we hit sunny Australia. I did enjoy my time in Australia, but to be honest, I was always thinking in the back of my mind to revisit Thailand. I did revisit at the end of the Australia trip and managed to stay for year 2000 celebrations before heading back to the UK.
