This is how you can save some cash!
My biggest expense – and I dont like to live in a complete shit hold either. However, if you do like to live in poverty, then Thailand is a good option. Being a developing country, there are some dirt cheap places to live. You could get a place on the outskirts of Bangkok for as little as £40 a MONTH! Now dont expect too much for this, its going to be a rather small studio apartment with possibly no air-con. I have never even bothered going to see one of these places, but they do exist. If you are up for this kind of lifestyle, then have a look here http://en.9apartment.com/ lots of places like this on this site – so this is £40 a month.
Yes, can be had pretty cheaply. You can get all your own food pretty cheap from the supermarket (if you get hungry for western food, buying the ingredients and making it yourself will be a good option if you have a hob – Chile / Hamburger etc). If you can eat Thai food all the time then you will be laughing – 20b upwards for street food – although its not too healthy as they fry most stuff and in a cheap oil – the soups are very tasty – my favorite is Bamee Nam Moo Dang (red pork with noodles in a stock – 30b ish). So lets say you are eating street food every day and you eat 3 times a day – 90b – £1.80 / day £54 Month
Get yourself a big 5 liter bottle for 50b – sounds expensive, but you can fill them up again from water machines for 6b so pretty cheap one you get your a bottle to use – £1 a month.
If you just get an apartment with a light bulb and fan you are talking cheap again – maybe 500b a month – £10.
These are maybe 1b a minute or something, 2b a text – 500b a month for me £10
I pay 600b a month for 6MB although you can get it a lot cheaper maybe 200b a month for lower speeds – £4.
Bangkok pretty cheap – Bus around 6b a trip for non aircon, skytrain more expensive – 20b for short trip – taxi 35b starting fair – motorbike taxi 10b for short trip – the Islands are a different story -very expensive for Taxi – 700b the robbing bastards.
Bangkok – 600b a month – £12
Total for basic Bangkok with internet, transport, food and water = £87.
