If you are going to be on the road a lot and have a smart phone, then I would suggest getting a data package for your phone. AIS is my provider and I have added the monthly data package to my phone its around 1100b for the month but I have added a few extras to this.
I have got a Samsung Galaxy Note which I love, but its worth a lot of money in any country, especially Thailand where electronics are more expensive. I have got the phone from the UK on a 2 year contract (much cheaper than getting one off contract here or in the UK) and gave that sim card to my dad so he has got 2 years of free calls and I kept the phone. Now I dont like to take this phone out with me when I am drinking in case I loose it somehow. What I have done is to set up my other phone, a HTC Wildfire with a second sim (20b a month to have 2 sim cards) an all you have to do is call *100# and the second sim will be activated.
The other extra I have got is a data plan for both phones – so the data package can be used on 2 sim cards. It is more expensive than just having a single sim data plan – I think that is about 1000b for 4gig 3g. I get 3 gig 3g and then unlimited HSTC, 2 sim cards with the same number for around 1100b.
If I am out and about and want to take my laptop with me, I just tether the phone to the laptop either my USB cable or by the Android hotspot device.
